Two years after Honda discontinued the CRX, the sporty two-seater vehicle with which the car company first became part of the economy sports-car market, it was replaced by the Del Sol. The car had a short run, produced only from 1994 to 1997. Though the car sold well abroad, sales numbers in the United States were dismally low.

Built on the Civic platform just as the CRX was, the aptly named Del Sol provided an element of surprise when it was released--it was Honda's first open-air vehicle. The auto, whose name in Spanish means _of the sun_, was a semi-convertible. Its hardtop targa roof could be removed and stored in the trunk and drivers could further the convertible feel by retracting the rear window.

Finding Quality Auto Parts for Restoration Purposes

Like many cars that had a short market life and light sales, the Del Sol has become somewhat of a novelty. Honda enthusiasts are happy to add the auto to their car collections, restoring them with original elements and performance kits. During its run, the Del Sol had its share of trouble spots. The earliest models of the automobile had climate-control issues; not only did the AC condenser tend to corrode, but the temperature-control levers frequently broke and the blower motor whined. Add that to the fact that water tended to leak into the trunk through the antenna mount, and collectors find themselves in need of quality components for restoration.
